Hello! I’m Elizabeth. I have a Bachelor's Degree in English, a Master of Fine Arts Degree in Mass Communications, post baccalaureate study in Creative Writing and graduate work in Creative Writing. I am also a published writer with essays and articles appearing in The Christian Science Monitor, The Hollywood Reporter and numerous regional publications in Louisiana and North Carolina where I now live.
I have been trained in the college essay writing and editing process by an Admissions Counselor here and this is the area I wish to focus on the most. I begin by assessing the student’s needs in this area one-on-one, discussing Common App essay prompts with them to determine which choice suits them best to bring out their strengths. After working on an outline together, I work with the student on their first draft, or edit a draft they have, and then assign them the homework of an additional draft as we work toward a finished essay. This plan is flexible according to students’ needs and parental suggestion.
In addition to my education and tutoring experience, I think my success as a professional writer will benefit students in their efforts to achieve clarity, focus and self- expression in their very important essay. I can also tutor writing on lower grade levels focusing on grammar, punctuation, syntax and cohesive writing.
My tutoring experience includes tutoring for the GED, ESL, and Adult Literacy for about two years. This was one-on-one tutoring with the exception of ESL which was a class setting. The GED and Adult Literacy were both volunteer experiences. The GED tutoring was for young adults, some high school age, and the ESL and Adult Literacy tutoring was for adults. I offer a twenty minute complimentary session and require twelve hours advance notice for a cancellation.
Some of my students have overcome enormous obstacles to achieve their goals. You can too.
