I have taught for over 30 years and just recently retired from the public schools. I taught math and science at a private middle school in Hickory for the past two years. This year I will be working with a Charter School opening up the Upper School, "High School" and mentoring new teachers.

I am also available to work with home schooled students. I can teach all of the math and most of the science necessary for completing high school level requirement. If several students need similar help I will set up a group rate for them. Let me know what you need.
I look forward to working with you and helping you to be all that you can be. I have taught for over 30 years and just recently retired from the public schools. Due to the price of gas, I must charge an extra 1/2 hr for travel to the Clt area or SC locations unless the lesson goes 2 hrs. I work with the rate for multiple students at one location.
John is tutoring my high school junior in physics. He is an excellent tutor and we are very pleased with the service he has provided. He is easily accessible and very accommodating. My high schooler says he is very thorough in his explanations and puts the material on a level that is easy to understand. He is pleasant and professional. We would highly recommend John to anyone looking for a tutor.
John is very patient and willing to work with a busy "teenager" schedule. He has definitely helped our son with his Pre-Cal class and also offered Chemistry helpful hints! John returns our emails and phone calls in a timely manner.
John is Tutoring our 16 year old in Algebra and it seems to be going very well. Never can tell until the grade cards come out. However our son is at least paying attention, which he never has before. This has really taken a load off of us and we appreciate that.
John M. is a very patient tutor. He not only reviewed the work with my 16 year old son but he also taught my son new study techniques. I am very grateful.
My granddaughter is a perfectionist. She is an honors student with testing anxiety. When she came home from school in tears struggling to comprehend physics, I knew she needed a tutor. I was looking for a calm, patient, excellent teacher. My granddaughter wanted a young person. I asked her to give the mature gentleman a try. She loved John and his style of teaching! To quote her "Mr. M was patient and calm. He made the material easy to understand. And he knows more than my Physics teacher!" That says it all! When I asked her if she would recommend John to other stressed students, she said most definitely. Thanks to John, her stress level can start to decrease. And I can rest knowing that I have made the right choice in a tutor.
John and I talked about the areas he would be addressing, and about the needs of the student. After the first session he had a definite insight into the students needs. He was patient, and provided a relaxed atmosphere at the location we agreed upon. The first tutoring session seemed to be well worth it.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
