I have been tutoring since I was a freshman in high school. My tutoring style is tailored to the individual and seeks to help the student build their own learning and studying skills over time. I love tutoring because I enjoy helping people learn and enabling them to develop their own skills.

I have been tutoring since I was a freshman in high school. My tutoring style is tailored to the individual and seeks to help the student build their own learning and studying skills over time. I love tutoring because I enjoy helping people learn and enabling them to develop their own skills.

Previous Experience: In high school, I tutored peers in Chemistry as part of the National Honor Society. I also helped struggling second-graders with their reading skills through a program called Reading Buddies. I worked at Clemson University as a peer tutor with the Supplemental Instruction program for two years while I was working on my degree. I studied Materials Engineering, thus I have a strong grasp of math and science subjects and I am well aware of the skills needed to transition from high school to college. I enjoy explaining difficult concepts and I aim to help my students feel relaxed and confident about subjects they might have felt overwhelmed by. I have worked as a professional tutor in Asheville since the spring of 2015. I primarily tutor middle school, high school and college students. I have worked with students from Owen High School, Asheville High, A.C. Reynolds, T.C. Roberson, Hanger Hall School for Girls, the Asheville School, Asheville Buncombe Tech, University of North Carolina at Asheville, and Buncombe County Early College.

Chemistry: Chemistry is my specialty, as I have a minor in that subject and it is the subject I have the most experience tutoring as well as learning. I tutor high school and college Chemistry, including General Chemistry and Organic Chemistry I and II. I can also help students who struggle with lab reports.

I have tutored Chemistry for four years. I have tutored high school Chemistry, AP and IB Chemistry, General Chemistry at the college level, Organic Chemistry, and Analytical Chemistry. Additionally I have a minor in Chemistry from Clemson University.
Handwriting

Handwriting

I am skilled in printing, cursive, and calligraphy writing. I find that good handwriting is important for taking notes and writing quickly, thus I have diligently learned the correct letter formation in order to pass on this knowledge to my students. My methods of teaching include demonstrating proper formation of letters and practicing with different writing instruments on lined paper, then moving on to word formation and sentence formation.
Organic Chemistry

Organic Chemistry

As a major in polymer science, much of my course of study focused on intense knowledge of organic chemistry. Additionally I tutored organic chemistry at Clemson University as a Supplemental Instruction leader for one semester thus I have had professional experience in tutoring this subject. My tutoring methods for this subject rely heavily on visual learning through drawing structures and helping students to have good spatial understanding of chemical structures as this is highly important in organic chemistry.

I am currently an advance reader for a published author. One of my tasks as an advance reader is to point out any typos or grammatical errors in the unfinished drafts. Additionally, I was an editor of my school newspaper, thus I have had a lot of experience proofreading and editing.

For a year, I volunteered as a tutor for second-grade students who were struggling. The students I tutored each improved dramatically and had a new found love of reading as a result.
Study Skills

Study Skills

I speak to students and observe them working on school work in order to help them with their study skills. Often we discuss study environment, study material, and study aids. At Clemson I took a Study Skills class in order to become a better tutor, especially for students with learning disabilities who may need a more strict set of study skills. I have helped many students develop better study skills so that they are able to work more effectively on their school work.
