I have a Masters in English, an undergrad degree in Theater Arts, am a life-long History Buff and Bible student and a published author. I am more than qualified to teach any elementary level courses. I tutored in a volunteer program a few years back for junior high school reading comprehension and would say I excel at communications skills, including reading, writing, grammar, spelling, punctuation, composition, and editing. I can also make history exciting, put drama and perspective to it, and coach in public speaking but I would not pretend to go beyond elementary levels of math and science. I spent a career lifetime writing in one capacity or another for Corporate America as well as teaching and training adults in a variety of skill sets and knowledge fields.
I taught in and ran my own daycare for ages 3-9 for five years while my own children were in that age group. All "my kids" learned to read and write early. My own children are my greatest success; both skipped grades, excelled in school and went on to obtain full scholarships to Duke and Furman. And both are now highly successful professionals.
I thoroughly enjoy working with those who are open to learning; attitude is everything. While I LOVE to teach, I do expect an atmosphere of mutual respect and a student who desires to learn. As a Christian I do not push my beliefs on anyone but I do conduct myself appropriately with humor, patience and a moral underpinning that is the foundation of my own character and methods.
I know children gain self-esteem through achievement.
