Paul graduated from Emory University, where he majored in English and completed minors in Political Science, Spanish, and Music. After college, Paul embarked on a career as a standardized test prep and academic tutor, culminating in a role with Access Test Prep & Tutoring, Atlanta’s premier boutique tutoring firm. Paul also earned a TOEFL certification and spent a year teaching English at the nonprofit Sarapiqui Conservation and Learning Center in Costa Rica. After starting a family, Paul moved to Asheville, NC, where he worked as a teacher while continuing to tutor part-time. More recently, Paul earned a Master’s in Communication, which informs his work as an educator.
Paul takes a personalized approach to tutoring and teaching, recognizing that every student learns differently. Paul has experience with project-based learning, distance (online) education, and the Socratic method, in which students are guided with questions and encouraged to make their own connections. During his career, Paul has received training and hands-on experience with compassionate communication, and will approach students of all ages and skill levels with respect and empathy.
During his long career in education – as a tutor, teacher, ESL teacher, and summer camp counselor – Paul has worked with students of all ages, including young children and adults. The majority of Paul’s tutoring experience has been with high school students preparing for their SATs and ACTs. Paul can successfully tutor math and language arts, and regularly achieves perfect scores across the board on the SAT and ACT practice tests. Paul has tutored individually, in-person and online, taught small group classes, adult classes, and middle and high school subjects including Algebra, Geometry, Language Arts, Music Game Design, and more.
