Hello! I am a Physics and Computer Science graduate from UNC Chapel Hill with a passion for both learning and teaching. I have enjoyed sharing what I know with others for as long as I can remember. As a child, this meant telling my parents absolutely everything new I was learning in school. But in college, this same desire to share my interests manifested in me finding outlets to teach. I was a peer tutor at the UNC Learning Center and helped students with algebra, calculus, python coding, and introductory physics. I co-taught a physics lab on introductory mechanics to around 40 students which gave me experience in a classroom teaching to larger groups. I was also part of AppTeam Carolina, an organization where I taught coding for iOS to those interested in app development. While in college, I took many classes in education for the sciences and have honed the excited ramble that my parents used to know into coherent lessons while still maintaining the same enthusiasm.
I’ve also worked professionally as a math tutor for all ages (mostly in a one-on-one setting) as well as spent hundreds of hours tutoring on my own. This has ranged from teaching fractions to some all the way up to calculus to others. I also volunteered with an organization to make and teach lectures for subjects in math, physics, and computer science on topics ranging from Python programming to electric and magnetic fields.
I disagree with the philosophy of teaching for the exam and I highly value helping students develop a strong understanding of the material so that they can eventually become self-sufficient. In my opinion, understanding how you got to the answer is far more important than the answer itself. Because of this, I value spending more time on fewer problems but can guarantee you will come away with the ability to do the rest on your own. This allows us to go at your pace to make sure you understand the nuances of the choices we make at each step. Don’t be afraid to ask why! It's the strongest tool you have to learn.
