Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Elementary (K-6th)

For four years, I substitute taught elementary school in CA and was teacher's aide for fifth grade in an experimental program in Balboa Park. We lead discussions through current topics that changed monthly in various museums (History, Automobile, Sports, and Art) as well as the famous San Diego Zoo. Topics included science, history, geography and art. I have a Master's in Education, which is equivalent to Instructional Design.

English

I have a Masters in Ed. Technology with about 24 credits in English. I taught writing at Hewlett-Packard, San Diego Comm. College and University of Phoenix. I customize each session to the student's needs and interest.

ESL/ESOL

I have a conversational grasp of English as a Second Language as well as grammar, workplace vocabulary, idioms and accent enhancement (Whatever you need - I will customize).

I taught ESL for four years as Literacy Coordinator at Hewlett-Packard and English Second Language instructor at San Diego Community College. I took five English as a Second Language courses through San Diego Regional Center. I also have a Master's in Education.

GED

I taught GED also English in postsecondary and college. I have a Masters in Education and am patient. I also give practical test-taking tips. I wrote test questions for Measurement, a test firm in my area and do well on tests myself. You can too!

Microsoft Word

Latest upgrade to my education was business analytics for three months last year where I taught myself some Advanced Excel. I used Excel a lot with documenting grades while teaching.

Public Speaking

Do you need help with the fear of public speaking? Public speaking is rated as the number one fear of all people-young and old. Besides practical tips to feel relaxed and self-confident, you will also learn to incorporate ways to build rapport with your audience and command attention. Decide whether you need to inform, persuade entertain or a combination. How important are props, music, your voice tone and PowerPoint? Learn the answers to leave a memorable impression with your message.

I have a Masters in Education and taught public speaking at University of Phoenix and Hewlett-Packard (individual basis).

Reading

As previous literacy coordinator at Hewlett-Packard, I have experience teaching adults. Later I transferred the successful methods to children. In addition, I implement the Cornell method of reading and studying as well as tips learned from various reading workshops.

Special Needs

I have worked with kids and adults successfully with ADHD one-on-one and in experiential classrooms. I also participated in trainings for ADHD coping skills developed by a psychologist.

In 2013 I was accepted and completed the Duke Integrated Health Coaching Foundation. My BA is in Psychology and Masters in Educational Technology. Also I took 300 hours of Whole Foods Nutrition. I,along with researchers, believe that children's food, exercise and medication affects their focus. I currently work with students to help them focus, catch up and EXCEL by learning strategies to accommodate their learning style.

Spelling

I excelled in spelling and hope to provide some practical tips to improve grades.

Study Skills

I have experience with teaching the Cornell SQ3R study method to students for two years. I participated in Learning and Development Center training in San Diego for helping ADD students with focus and study skills.

Writing

I wrote this article last year about a local Cary teen and also taught for University of Phoenix, San Diego Community College and tutored local teens.
