I taught mathematics at the University of Virginia for seven years as a full-time Lecturer. My courses included Calculus I, Calculus II, Multivariable Calculus, Ordinary Differential Equations, Linear Algebra, and Probability, and I have worked with more than one thousand engineering students.

I know the places where students usually get stuck, and I enjoy helping them get past those points. In a session, we start with what you are working on right now, such as a homework set, an upcoming exam, or a topic that never made sense. I explain an example step by step, and then you try a similar problem while I follow your thinking. This helps us fix the real misunderstanding instead of only finding the answer.

My students often told me that they felt comfortable asking any question in my class. I want every student to feel the same way in our sessions.

I also hold two master's degrees in civil engineering, one in structural engineering and one in earthquake engineering. Because of this background, I like to show engineering and physics students how the mathematics connects to beams, vibrations, and real data.

I tutor all levels of calculus, including AP Calculus, as well as differential equations, linear algebra, probability, statistics, precalculus, statics, and strength of materials. Please send me a message about your course and your goals, and we will make a plan together.

Approved Subjects

ACT Math

ACT Math

I taught college mathematics at the University of Virginia for seven years, so the pre-algebra, algebra, functions, coordinate and plane geometry, trigonometry, and statistics tested on the ACT are a strong foundation I build on with every student. I help students quickly recognize common question types, such as linear and quadratic equations, percent and ratio problems, right-triangle trig, and probability, and teach practical strategies like working backward from the answer choices and eliminating wrong answers. Because the enhanced ACT gives only about 67 seconds per question, I combine concept review with timed practice so students build both accuracy and speed. I’m patient, explain every step clearly, and focus on the specific skills each student needs to raise their score.
Algebra 1

Algebra 1

I taught mathematics for seven years (Fall 2019 to Spring 2026) as a full-time Lecturer in the Applied Mathematics Center at the University of Virginia, teaching Calculus I and II, Multivariable Calculus, Ordinary Differential Equations, Linear Algebra and Probability to more than 1,100 students. Before that, I taught Partial Differential Equations, Engineering Mathematics and Statics as a graduate teaching fellow. I hold two master's degrees in engineering, with graduate coursework in engineering mathematics, numerical analysis, differential equations, and probability and statistics. I have used mastery-based and inquiry-based teaching and co-authored three research papers on how students learn mathematics. I help students at every level, from Algebra and Precalculus to AP Calculus and college courses, by finding gaps, explaining each step clearly and building real confidence.
Algebra 2

Algebra 2

I help students strengthen their mathematical foundations by explaining equations, functions, graphs, trigonometry, and problem-solving techniques in a clear and approachable way.
Calculus

Calculus

I am an experienced mathematics instructor at the University of Virginia, where I have taught Calculus I, II, III, and other undergraduate mathematics courses to engineering students. I help students understand challenging calculus concepts through clear explanations, step-by-step problem-solving, and practical examples. I can assist with Calculus I, II, and III, including limits, derivatives, integration techniques, applications of integration, sequences and series, and multivariable calculus. My goal is to help students develop a strong conceptual understanding, improve their problem-solving skills, and gain confidence in mathematics.
Differential Equations

Differential Equations

I have taught Ordinary Differential Equations at the University of Virginia for multiple semesters. I help students understand first- and second-order equations, Laplace transforms, systems of differential equations, and engineering applications.
Elementary Math

Elementary Math

Here’s a 4-sentence Elementary Math qualifications statement you can paste in: I taught mathematics at the University of Virginia for seven years, and I bring that deep understanding to helping young learners build a strong foundation in number sense, place value, addition and subtraction, multiplication and division, fractions, and word problems. I explain each idea in small, clear steps using pictures, models, and everyday examples, so children understand why math works instead of just memorizing rules. I’m patient and encouraging, and I focus on building confidence so students enjoy math and feel proud of their progress. I keep parents informed after each lesson about what we worked on and how to practice at home.
GED

GED

I taught mathematics at the University of Virginia for seven years, and I enjoy helping adult learners rebuild their math skills and pass the GED Mathematical Reasoning test with confidence. I cover everything on the test, including fractions, decimals and percents, ratios and proportions, basic statistics, area and volume with the formula sheet, linear equations and inequalities, graphs and functions, and word problems. I also teach students how to use the TI-30XS calculator efficiently and how to handle the no-calculator questions at the start of the test. I’m patient and encouraging, I start wherever each student is, even years after their last math class, and I break every topic into simple steps so progress comes quickly.
Geometry

Geometry

As a civil and structural engineer, I used geometry and trigonometry every day in design work on buildings and bridges, and I taught mathematics at the University of Virginia for seven years, so I can show students both how geometry works and why it matters. I help students with angle relationships, parallel lines, congruent and similar triangles, the Pythagorean theorem and right-triangle trigonometry, circles, area and volume, coordinate geometry and transformations. I give special attention to proofs, teaching students how to organize given information, choose the right theorem and write clear two-column and paragraph proofs step by step. I use diagrams and real-world examples to make each idea visual, so geometry finally makes sense.
GRE

GRE

I taught university mathematics for seven years as a Lecturer in the Applied Mathematics Center at the University of Virginia, including Calculus, Applied Statistics and Probability, and differential equations, and I hold an M.S. from UVA with graduate coursework in engineering mathematics, statistics, and probability. I tutor only the GRE Quantitative section, so my focus is on the algebra, geometry, arithmetic, and data analysis topics that make up the exam, along with the problem-solving strategies that help you work faster and avoid common traps. I use a mastery-based approach: we find the topics where you lose points, practice them until they are solid, and then move on to timed practice. My goal is to help you understand why each method works so you can handle unfamiliar questions, not just memorize tricks.
Physics

Physics

I’m a civil and structural engineer with two master’s degrees, and I taught Statics and Mechanics of Materials at the University of Virginia and the University of Central Florida, so forces, equilibrium and free-body diagrams are at the core of my teaching. I help students with kinematics, projectile motion, Newton’s laws, friction and inclined planes, work and energy, momentum and collisions, circular motion, rotation and torque, and simple harmonic motion. My research in structural dynamics and earthquake engineering, along with seven years teaching calculus and differential equations at UVA, lets me support both algebra-based and calculus-based courses, including AP Physics 1 and AP Physics C: Mechanics. I show students how to draw clear diagrams, set up equations step by step and check whether their answers make physical sense.
Prealgebra

Prealgebra

I help students strengthen their mathematical foundations by explaining equations, functions, graphs, trigonometry, and problem-solving techniques in a clear and approachable way.
Precalculus

Precalculus

I have extensive experience teaching university-level mathematics, including Calculus II. I help students master limits, derivatives, integrals, sequences, series, and applications through clear explanations and guided practice.
Probability

Probability

I taught Applied Statistics and Probability at the University of Virginia, where I used mastery-based grading so students could master each topic before moving on, and my graduate coursework included probability, statistics and stochastic modeling. I help students with counting and combinatorics, conditional probability and Bayes’ theorem, discrete and continuous random variables, expected value and variance, and the binomial, Poisson, exponential and normal distributions. I explain each concept with clear, real-world examples, such as games, quality control and engineering reliability, so students understand when and why each formula applies. Whether you’re in an introductory course, an engineering probability class or preparing for an exam, I’ll help you set up problems correctly and build lasting confidence.
SAT Math

SAT Math

I taught college mathematics at the University of Virginia for seven years, so the algebra, advanced math, data analysis, and geometry and trigonometry tested on the digital SAT are second nature to me. I help students master the high-frequency question types, such as linear equations and systems, quadratics, percent and ratio problems, and circle and trig identities, and show them how to use the built-in Desmos calculator to solve problems faster and check their work. Because the SAT gives about 95 seconds per question, I combine concept review with timed practice using official Bluebook tests so students build both accuracy and pacing. I’m patient, explain every step clearly, and focus on the specific skills each student needs to raise their score.
Statistics

Statistics

I taught Applied Statistics and Probability at the University of Virginia and completed graduate coursework in statistics, probability and stochastic modeling, and I also used statistical analysis to evaluate student outcomes in my published engineering education research. I help students with descriptive statistics and data displays, sampling distributions and the Central Limit Theorem, confidence intervals, hypothesis testing (z-tests, t-tests, chi-square and ANOVA), and correlation and linear regression. I focus on interpreting results in plain language, such as what a p-value or a confidence interval really means, so students can explain their conclusions, not just calculate them. I can also help with statistics software and calculators, including Excel and Python, for courses that require data analysis.
Trigonometry

Trigonometry

I have extensive experience teaching university-level mathematics, including Calculus II. I help students master limits, derivatives, integrals, sequences, series, and applications through clear explanations and guided practice.
