Hi, I’m Brendan! I began tutoring a decade ago, and have middle school, high school and collegiate-level experience tutoring calculus, geometry, algebra, biology, psychology, neuroscience, writing, test prep, applications, and more (please view my subjects below).
I graduated with Honors from Yale College, with a B.S. in Cognitive Science. Highlights from my tutoring at Yale include working as an Academic Strategies Advisor at the Poorvu Center for Teaching and Learning, where I mentored my peers (one-on-one) on how to build approaches empowering them to tackle difficult subjects, plan and execute final papers, and balance complex courseloads.
My primary aim is always to help my students intuitively master the material they want to within the timeframe they have available. But my secondary aim is to help students develop a toolkit for how to tackle their difficult subjects. I don’t just want students to learn material. I want students to leave feeling like they’re empowered to continue learning on their own.
Having worked with students struggling with 6th grade math to students successfully applying to some of the most prestigious graduate fellowships in the world, I’m a firm believer in tailoring specific strategies and resources for each individual student’s needs. I recommend setting aside a portion of the first session to discuss your specific goals, timelines, weaknesses and strengths. I’m always open to feedback and want to constantly be incorporating what works best for you.
