MSU Northern (Elementary Education)
I am a 7 year veteran as a certified elementary teacher in a small rural school. I teach K-6th grade students in all curricular areas. Prior to becoming a teacher, I was a paraeducator, speech aide, and office aide in the same school system,in which I now teach, for 10 years. I love working with students, helping them reach their full potential in learning and life. I love seeing the light bulb shine when the student has mastered or reached a goal. I have always worked with children, even before having two of my own. Children are our future, and the foundation that is built in elementary levels build the self confidence that students need when advancing to upper levels in middle school/high school and beyond. I would love to share my passion for learning with your student.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I am a certified K-8 teacher in the State of Montana. I have taught 7 years with my current employer. I have a class 2 license with an endorsement in Reading.
I love working with numbers and sharing that enthusiasm with students. I teach all curricular areas in a multilevel classroom. Math basics are a foundation needed to be successful in upper grade level classes.
I teach all curricular areas in a multilevel classroom. Science is a very hands on learning experience so that students can see what is happening, compare, and associate with what they are reading. This uses multiple senses to gain understanding and provides a full learning environment for diverse learners.
I teach all curricular areas in a multilevel classroom. Grammar is very important whether we are using technology or paper pencil. I have taught in a classroom for 7 years and been and paraprofessional for 10 years prior, teaching all areas.
Phonics is an important part of understanding how to pronounce a word. Phonics is needed to begin to know how to spell a word. Each of these are taught as part of an English Language Arts curriculum. I have taught this for the past seven years within the curriculum and cross curricular areas also.
Reading is one of the most important of curricula I teach. It does not matter what we do in our everyday life, reading is a part of the daily skills we all need. Reading for understanding, as well as enjoyment can broaden our knowledge and take us place we may never see. Vocabulary, spelling, grammar, are all modeled in Reading and a very important part of learning.
Spelling is very critical in communicating in written or spoken form. I teach this as part of my language arts curriculum in a multilevel classroom. Spelling is also helpful in phonics, and reading which I also teach and connect spelling to on a daily basis.
I teach study skills as a part of each curricular area, in particular to add strength in understanding that there is more than one way to solve problems, and seek answers to questions. I believe that study skill are important for a student in helping provide self confidence and bridging motivation and learning. All student can achieve, they just need help to discover the way that they learn best.
I teach vocabulary as part of each curricular areas such as: reading, science, math, language arts and science. Specific vocabulary helps with understanding of the subject. Using the correct vocabulary when communicating and discussing develops clarifies understanding and allows me the ability to assess understanding.
