I'm Ashley! I graduated with a bachelors degree in Elementary Education and have over 11 years of experience as an educator (8 years teaching 2nd grade, 1 year teaching 5th grade) and 2 years as a math and literacy instructional coach. I am Board Certified (NBCT) and also have a Masters in Curriculum and Instruction. I am an upbeat, positive educator who loves working with kids. My goal is always to help your child achieve, while simultaneously making it fun for them to learn!

My passion for teaching and learning lies within Elementary Math and Literacy. I have a strong understanding in the science of reading and use that knowledge to guide literacy lessons. For the past 8 years, I have used student data to drive small group instruction to ensure academic success and remediating learning gaps. I use variety of learning techniques to ensure I meet the needs of each child's learning style for each subject, such as kinesthetic, visual, and auditory learning.

I have short assessments I will give, depending on the academic need in ELA or Math, at our first tutoring session to help guide instruction throughout each lesson. I will also use these assessments to track student progress. I will provide intervention, additional practice on current learning standards, proofread essays, (older students), or extended learning.

Not only do I love teaching, but I love being a mom. I took a break from the classroom this year to be more involved at my children's school. I currently volunteer in their classrooms and help a small group of students learn to read and write. Tutoring is a way for me to continue to working with kids, but also having the flexibility to be a mom.

Feel free to contact me with any additional questions or to schedule a lesson. I would love to work together and help your child grow!

My passion for teaching and learning lies within Elementary Math and Literacy. I have a masters in curriculum and instruction and achieved my title as a National Board Certified Teacher (NBCT). I have a strong understanding in the science of reading and use that knowledge to guide literacy lessons. For the past 8 years, I have used student data in both reading and math to drive small group instruction to ensure academic success and remediate learning gaps. I use variety of learning techniques to ensure I meet the needs of each child's learning style for each subject, such as kinesthetic, visual, and auditory learning.
Elementary Math

Elementary Math

I have 9+ years of experience individualizing math groups, classroom instruction, and one on one learning. A big focus of mine for math is always to build number sense, automaticity, and provide a solid understanding of math standards and skills through guided and independent practice. I create an engaging and hands-on learning environment by providing manipulatives and visual representations for students to work with, therefore, building a solid math foundation for each student.
Phonics

Phonics

For the past 9 years, I have worked in my own classroom and many others to teach students and educators how to deliver explicit phonics instruction in a small group or 1:1 setting. My hands on and fun approach allows students to learn how to decode, spell, build automaticity, and work towards reading fluency and comprehension. I always collect data prior to working with students to understand each of their strengths and areas for growth. I track student growth with progress monitoring and regularly share growth with stakeholders. I love to teaching ELA and would enjoy helping your child learn to read and write!
Reading

Reading

Teaching reading is my strong suit. I LOVE helping students understand how to fully comprehend the text by teaching them about text structure, decoding single syllable and multisyllabic words, and building their vocabulary and fluency. I taught 2nd grade for 8 years, 5th grade for 1 year, and was a literacy coach for 2 years. I have a lot of experience and knowledge on providing remediation lessons for students or providing enrichment for learners wanting to build on their foundational skills. I am a Nationally Board Certified teacher in Literacy and I would love to help your child grow!
Writing

Writing

Writing is one of my strong suits. I love teaching kids how to write a solid narrative or informative essay. Based on their interests, we can focus on how to structure their paragraphs focusing on thesis statements, main ideas, elaborations, and a solid conclusion. In additon, I use a variety of ways to teach a student how to write a solid narrative essay, telling stories of themselves (personal) or about something fictional (creative). I was a district instructional coach in ,ath and literacy for two years in addition to 8 years as a classroom elementary teacher. I have 10+ years of training in writing and ELA as well. I would love to work with your child and help them grow in their writing skills!
