Adams State College (Master's)
Howdy folks! My name is Brandon. I am a special education teacher, former Spanish, history/social studies teacher, former head football, basketball, and track coach. I am the father of three and I have been happily married to my high school sweetheart for 20+ years. Although I consider home to be Wyoming and my family currently lives in southern Utah, I have just moved to Ekalaka, Montana to be the special education teacher for their elementary and high schools.
I have a bachelors degree from Southern Utah University and a masters degree from Adams State College in Colorado. I have taught for the past 15 years. I am lucky in that I understand the difficulties that students face in their education and how they sometimes just "don't get it." My specialty is teaching students that have different learning styles than a typical student. There is absolutely nothing wrong with that. Everybody's brain works and learns differently and the "old school" methods of teaching just don't seem to work as good as they used to. The youth today have what I refer to as a "technological brain" where they were born into the world of technology, thus, their brains are wired differently. Technology plays such a vital role in the lives of students and it has to be utilized to the greatest extent possible.
Ya know, it took me awhile for me to understand the best way for myself to learn and what works and what doesn't. My entire masters program was centered around brain-based research and how to best help all students learn, no matter what the subject content. I have taught all levels of English, history, science, Spanish, and math up to trigonometry.
I have been a tutor for students after-school as well as for students who have to miss school due to an injury. I understand, I love to teach and learn, I have never come across a student that I didn't like. For whatever reasons, I seem to connect extremely well with the students known as the "tough kids". We build respect and trust in each other and then go to work. Therefore, it would be an honor to serve as your tutor in any area of education needed. You will see results and we will be glad we found each other. Howdy folks! My name is Brandon. The student rate will be $60/hr. I will drive up to 60 miles for tutoring. The hourly rate drops to $50/hr with 2 or more individually paid student fees and/or 3+ hours/session.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have coached track and field on the middle and high school level as a head coach for 13 years. I am certified in Wyoming as an assistant and a head coach in track and field. I was the varsity head boys and girls track coach for two years at a 3A school in Wyoming. In high school, I was a state champion and placed at state in the 200m, 400m, 800m, longjump, 4x400 relay. I lettered all three years of high school, won two team state championships and a state runner-up. I was the most outstanding sophomore, junior, and senior trackman. I was offered a track scholarship in college but did not take it. My oldest daughter, in which I coached, and is a state champion and record holder in the high jump, went to college on a track scholarship and my other two children excel in track and field as well.
