I am currently a teacher in a rural Montana classroom where I work with students across multiple grade levels, primarily in the upper elementary and middle school range. I am emergency licensed through the Montana Office of Public Instruction while continuing my degree in education. In my classroom, I teach all subject areas with a strong focus on mathematics, reading, and writing. I also have extensive experience working with English Language Learners, as all of my students are developing English proficiency. This has strengthened my ability to break down concepts clearly, use visuals and examples, and support students with tools like sentence frames, guided practice, and step-by-step instruction.
My approach to tutoring is centered on helping students truly understand what they are learning, not just memorize steps. I focus on the “why” behind concepts so students can build confidence and apply their skills independently. I regularly use strategies like modeling, gradual release, and guided questioning to support student learning. Because I teach multiple grade levels at once, I am very comfortable adjusting instruction quickly, meeting students where they are, and providing individualized support based on their needs. I also understand that many students struggle with academic language, especially in math, so I make it a priority to teach vocabulary in a clear and meaningful way.
I believe that strong relationships are a key part of learning. I work to create a supportive and encouraging environment where students feel comfortable asking questions, making mistakes, and growing. As both a teacher and a parent, I understand that every student learns differently, and I take the time to figure out what works best for each individual. My goal is to help students build confidence, develop independence, and leave each session feeling more capable than when they started.
