I studied dramatic literature at Columbia University and earned a Master's degree in creative writing in the English Department at Brooklyn College. I taught remedial reading summer workshops at York College. I also studied in a Ph.D. program at the Graduate Center, City University of New York.
I majored in history in college, earning my BA in history from the University of Georgia in 1992. My Ph.D. studies were in cultural history and I taught cultural history at Western New Mexico University in 2012.
