Hi! My name is Oisin (pronounced O-sheen) and i began playing clarinet at the age of 11, and moved up to the saxophone at 12. I have been playing in community bands since i was 14 and started playing professional gigs in my teens with Australian groups like the Soul Sisters, Frankie J. Holden, the John Mackey Quintet and Wilbur Wilde. I spent a great deal of my time practising after falling in love with Jazz at an early age and received multiple scholarships to study music through my school years. I eventually attended the Australian National University's School Of Music, emerging in 2014 with a Bachelor's degree in music (specialising in Jazz).
I've been tutoring students on the saxophone and clarinet for the last 9 years, with the addition of guitar over the last 3. My teaching duties have ranged from everything to private one-on-one tuition from home and through a number of different schools/music schools to tutoring small school groups, teaching music theory, assisting in band rehearsals and sectionals, and teaching jazz improvisation masterclasses for more advanced students both through my own small business and for a number of music societies. I originally picked up teaching as a side gig to support myself through university, and never intended to continue outside of my graduating. However after a few years i completely fell in love with teaching! I've taught students from 6 years of age all the way through to late in life learners in their 80's, and all the while i have found it to be the most rewarding (and sometimes challenging!) undertaking to date.
I am patient, friendly, and focused! I take detailed notes on my student's progress and keep a practice diary for everyone under my tutelage, and work hard to make sure that time is maximised in every lesson while maintaining a fun learning environment.
