Bio

Do you want to raise your child with a thorough understanding and appreciation for the classics? Excited to learn a little bit more about Father Mapple's legendary sermon in Moby Dick? Looking to add a bit of heroism and idiosyncrasy to your writing? Interested in the historical differences between Lamarckian and Darwinian evolutionary theories? Still confused about how Germany got off so easily in the Treaty of Versailles? If you answered 'maybe' to any of these questions, give me a ring.

I read and write broadly. I've written short stories, research papers, creative non-fiction essays, and poetry. Many will say they are experts in these fields, but a true man of letters recognizes he can always improve. If you're looking for an iconoclastic tutor who will give your writing a creative edge I am your guy, bar none. My reading has also been broad, but I trend more toward the classics. No YA or NYT best-seller list stuff here.

I was a Presidential Scholar at MSU, presented original historical research at the Western Regional Honors Undergrad Council in 2018, and won best undergraduate paper in the History department. I graduated with a 3.9 GPA, and offer something most history tutors don't: cool, calm and collected historical analysis that does not lapse into anachronism when confronted by contemporary political concerns.

Contact me by email or phone. Don't be afraid to call; I much prefer phone calls to text messages, though email trumps both. I am very flexible on availability. Be prepared for eye-opening reading and stringent proofreading.

Best,

Jay
