Bio

I'm a professional data scientist and statistician, and I also work part-time as an adjunct professor in those subjects. I most often tutor in statistics and R, at both the introductory and advanced/graduate level. Beyond tutoring on statistics coursework, I often provide statistical support for undergraduate and graduate research projects across disciplines from economics to health research to ecology.

I most often tutor in statistics and R, at both the introductory and advanced/graduate level. Beyond tutoring on statistics coursework, I often provide statistical support for undergraduate and graduate research projects across disciplines from economics to health research to ecology.

I also tutor regularly tutor in other subjects including data analysis econometrics and with additional programming languages/tools, including python, STATA, SQL, and Tableau. I don't offer tutoring in Java or general macro/micro economics.

I love sharing my knowledge on these topics and watching as students gain confidence in their skills and understanding of a subject! I find that a lot of students who struggle in large class settings thrive in one-on-one settings where they feel more comfortable asking questions and can have a lesson tailored to the specific things they are struggling with. I also try to bring in an applied perspective from my professional experience working in the field to better contextualize the work students are doing and ground the course material in real-world applications.

As an adjunct professor, I have taught classes for undergraduate and graduate students in probability and statistics, intro programming with Python, data science with R and Python, and SQL. Prior to working as a data scientist, I worked as a tutor for 2 years for undergraduate students studying statistics, math, and economics.

I have a Master's in Data Science with a concentration in statistics. My undergraduate degree was in economics and political science, with a minor in math.

I attended the National Debate Tournament (NDT) twice, an invite-only tournament for the top 78 paired teams of debaters across the country. I also present regularly in webinars in my job as a data scientist and statistician, working to explain complex concepts to a broad audience, as well as lecturing to a class of students through my work as an adjunct professor.

The Perfect Way to Learn

Michelle instructed me for an online class using R and now with Python/Jupyter. I use tutors because my time is limited and I need the fast track to studying. The most amazing thing about her is her ability to explain concepts that build upon previously known knowledge. The other thing is that I no matter the session, she easily adapts to the needs of the student. An hour spent with her goes by so fast that I always wish I had more time. There are those that show you, but with her, you learn so that you can do it on your own later. Phenomenal tutor and not a second is wasted.

For example, to better explain concepts to me, she searches and reads academic research articles so that she has a better understanding of what I need help in. She’s just awesome.
