Dear Students and Parents,
I am a university piano professor with over 20 years of teaching experience and a Doctor of Musical Arts degree in Piano Performance. I have worked with students ranging in age from 5 to 80, from complete beginners to advanced musicians preparing for auditions and performances. These experiences have shaped my belief that every student learns differently, and I tailor each lesson to the individual’s goals, level, and learning style. My teaching focuses on building a strong technical foundation, developing musical understanding, and fostering confidence in a supportive and encouraging environment.
In my lessons, I emphasize both structure and flexibility, helping students develop effective practice habits while also encouraging musical expression and creativity. In addition to piano instruction, I offer guidance in accompanying and collaborative playing, supporting students in developing the listening skills and responsiveness needed to perform with others. Whether a student is preparing for a recital or learning for personal enjoyment, I aim to make each lesson clear, engaging, and rewarding.
Having lived in the United States for over 20 years, I also provide ESL support, particularly for students navigating academic or professional settings. I am fluent in both English and Chinese and can teach in either language as needed. I understand the challenges of working in a second language and strive to create a patient and supportive learning environment. My goal is to help each student make steady progress while enjoying the learning process. I welcome the opportunity to work with you and support your musical and academic goals.
