About Janet

Bio

I am a certified teacher, published author, freelance editor, and publisher. My endorsements are in English, social studies, and gifted, and I have taught all these areas from grades 2-12. In addition to seven years teaching in public education, I have taught in other sectors and have over twenty years teaching experience. In the past, I have tutored privately, through Huntington Learning Center, and at the University of Southern Mississippi's TIPS program, which focused greatly on "at risk"...

I am a certified teacher, published author, freelance editor, and publisher. My endorsements are in English, social studies, and gifted, and I have taught all these areas from grades 2-12. In addition to seven years teaching in public education, I have taught in other sectors and have over twenty years teaching experience. In the past, I have tutored privately, through Huntington Learning Center, and at the University of Southern Mississippi's TIPS program, which focused greatly on "at risk" and delinquent students.

I am a mother and grandmother, an animal lover, an avid reader, and a history buff. I try to utilize multiple approaches to learning since no two people are the same.

I am a published author, free lance editor, and small publisher. Over the years, I have been responsible for for producing many different newsletters, and I re-established the school newspaper when I taught at Velma Jackson High School. As a matter of fact, the young man who was my editor in chief now designs all my book covers.

I am certified in social studies, but I am a history buff and I love anything old, from old cars to old cemeteries.

My students have always seemed to like me, especially since I try to do lessons that are not boring and often incorporate art and music to promote learning. Pen-and-paper tests do not always accurately measure learning, and I believe teaching a child to think for him/herself goes a long way to increasing academic achievement.

I am easy to talk to and value confidentiality highly. Relationships matter, and having a workable give-and-take in which both parties are respected promotes learning and growth.
