About Zach

Bio

I have 15 years of experience as a high school English teacher. I have spent the past six years teaching honors-level courses that prepare students for Advanced Placement and Dual Credit English courses.

I currently teach AP Seminar and AP Research which I can provide some support for. I have served as an AP reader for College Board over the past four years, scoring student responses in AP Seminar and AP Research. Through that experience, I know what student papers need to do to score...

I currently teach AP Seminar and AP Research which I can provide some support for. I have served as an AP reader for College Board over the past four years, scoring student responses in AP Seminar and AP Research. Through that experience, I know what student papers need to do to score well on the rubric and can point students to several resources and sample papers they can use to strengthen their papers.

***I cannot provide direct, individualized feedback or assistance for anything that is submitted to College Board, but I can point to areas of the rubric where they can improve and provide examples to guide them.***

Additionally, I have experience in helping students prepare for the written portions of several AP exams including Lang, US History, and World History. Along with valuing the importance of developing students' writing skills, I also understand how difficult this can be for many students. I do my best to break writing assignments down to their most essential skills to help students understand the common elements of quality writing. I enjoy working with students one on one to improve their understanding, and I am willing to dedicate as much time as is necessary to ensure that students I work with find success.

I have a wide variety of experience with the most traditional forms of essays in high school English courses. I also have several years of experience in proofreading and guiding students through revision in dual credit & AP English essays, college admission essays, and scholarship essays.

I have taught high school English for the past five years and middle school English for six years before that. During that time I have covered a wide variety of literature ranging from short stories and poems to contemporary and classic novels. I am happy to assist with reading comprehension as well as discussing deeper literary aspects of texts like character development, theme, symbol, etc.

I am a high school English teacher with 12 years of experience. My current teaching job is in person with some students able to opt for distance classes, so I am very familiar with teaching online. Helping students improve writing is a passion for me because of how essential effective writing is for success in most professions. I am available for planning and outlining essays, working on thesis statements, revising and editing through proofreading, and reviewing proper formatting (MLA & APA). I also teach AP Seminar and AP Research which have given me experience working with college-level research based papers. This includes locating & evaluating sources, analyzing data, and presenting findings in writing.

Excellent Writing Tutor (AP Seminar and History)

My son, Arturo, is more comfortable in the math/science realm and struggles with writing. After just one session working with Zach on developing reading/writing skills, he is feeling newly motivated in terms of his big research project this semester in AP Seminar as well as optimistic that what he is learning will help in history class and other writing-intensive classes. Arturo found Zach "cool" and "easy to talk to," and whereas he usually dreads anything related to reading/writing, he is actually looking forward to future tutoring sessions and to assignments that previously felt daunting. We are super grateful!
