I have a Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education and a Master’s degree in School Counseling. I have worked in education for over eight years, primarily with elementary-aged students. For five years, I taught Science and Social Studies in an elementary classroom, where I worked with students with a wide range of academic abilities and learning needs. I currently serve as a school counselor at an elementary school, where I continue to work with students in Pre-K through 5th grade on a daily basis. My experience has given me a strong understanding of both academic instruction and the personal, organizational, and behavioral factors that can affect a student’s success in school.
My approach to tutoring is individualized and focused on helping students understand the material rather than simply completing assignments for them. I adjust my instruction based on each student's current skill level, learning style, and areas of difficulty. In addition to academic subjects, I have extensive experience helping students develop organization, study habits, time-management skills, goal-setting, motivation, and confidence. I believe students learn best when they feel supported while still being challenged to think independently and take ownership of their learning.
I am comfortable working with students who need additional academic support as well as students who are already performing well and want to strengthen their skills further. My background as both a classroom teacher and school counselor allows me to look at the whole student and help identify the specific skills or habits that may be preventing them from reaching their potential. My goal is to provide practical, encouraging instruction that helps students become more confident, capable, and independent learners.
