About John Clay

I believe that I have learned most in college by asking the right questions. With over two years of experience tutoring General Chemistry and other subjects at my university, I have found this to be true for many other students also, and I see it as a driving force for students to engage with and truly understand lecture material.

I believe that I have learned most in college by asking the right questions. With over two years of experience tutoring General Chemistry and other subjects at my university, I have found this to be true for many other students also, and I see it as a driving force for students to engage with and truly understand lecture material.

I recently graduated with a 4.0 GPA from Delta State University with a Bachelors of Science in Biology with a minor in Chemistry, and I am continuing my training through a 1 year post-bac at the University of Massachusetts Chan Medical School as a PREP Scholar. In undergrad, I developed a strong curiosity for biology at the cellular and molecular level, and I continue exploring this realm through research at the intersection of microbiology and immunology.

I was thankful to have a thorough background of general chemistry from high school, and I relied on this foundation to understand both my chemistry courses and a vast array of biological principles. My experience as a tutor/ supplemental instructor for General Chemistry at my institution has given me further insight on the subject, and I am passionate to help out students, regardless of their major, to understand more about the fundamental operations within the life sciences. I have worked with college students of many backgrounds in addition to high schoolers, and I am excited to continue helping more students through the Wyzant platform.

If you want an experienced tutor in life sciences or general chemistry who has a biomedical-science perspective, feel free to contact me or ask any questions!

Approved Subjects

Biology

Biology

I have been greatly interested in the principles of cellular biology since my first semester of college, and I have worked tirelessly to master its topics in coursework and in my current research in the fields of Immunology/Microbiology. I have taken 60+ college credits in various Bio/Biomedical courses, delivered presentations on specific topics for up to 40 minutes, and have generated (award winning!) posters of novel research conducted on biomedical inqueries.
Chemistry

Chemistry

I have spent a great number of hours across the latter 2.5 years at my University as a lab assistant, tutor, and supplemental instructor for General Chemistry courses in addition to recently tutoring high schoolers. I have earned a degree with Chemistry as my minor, and further experience with upper level courses like Physical Chemistry, Instrumental Analysis, and Organic Chemistry as well as my intellectual focus on biomedical science has given me the perspective to ensure that I can tutor a student beyond just grades - I truly work at making sure they understand the material for their academic or professional goals.
