Hello! My name is Hannah and I have a Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education and a Master’s degree in Curriculum and Instruction, both from the University of Mississippi (Ole Miss). I spent six years teaching in the public school system, where I taught kindergarten, second grade, third grade, and fifth-grade math. Throughout my teaching career, I taught all core subjects, including reading, writing, math, science, and social studies. I also provided after-school tutoring in reading and math for over two years, giving me valuable experience working one-on-one and in small groups to help students build confidence and reach their academic goals.
My passion is helping children become confident, capable learners by meeting them where they are and building on their strengths. When teaching reading, I use a Science of Reading approach that combines explicit phonics instruction with sight words, spelling patterns, digraphs, blending sounds, repetition, and common reading rules. I believe children become successful readers when they receive a balanced approach that develops both decoding skills and reading fluency.
For math, I believe understanding why a concept works is just as important as knowing how to solve the problem. I teach students using the Common Core strategies to build a strong conceptual foundation, and once those concepts are mastered, I introduce traditional methods to increase speed, accuracy, and confidence. My goal is for students to not only solve problems correctly but to truly understand the math behind them.
