I’ve taught STEM and test-prep topics to people of all ages. My goal is to provide the guidance and support my clients need to achieve their goals, as well as the encouragement we all need when tackling something new and difficult.

I have degrees in both humanities and STEM fields, and 99th percentile scores on the SAT and ACT. I've taught at several colleges, but have come to prefer one-on-one instruction and a focus on academic fundamentals.

I currently tutor all sections of the ACT and the new Digital SAT tests, and work with clients on various state-specific tests. I also tutor most mathematics through the high school level.

Please contact me if you’re interested in tutoring or just have questions about the process. I look forward to hearing from you!

A note about lesson scheduling:
If you need to cancel or reschedule a session, please do so at least 24 hours before the scheduled lesson time. When a client can’t make the scheduled time, I remain online for the first 10 minutes, after which time the session is canceled, and the student is billed for only that 10 minutes. Cancellation/rescheduling of a lesson with less than 24 hours notice is treated the same as a “no-show”.

ACT English

ACT English

I tutor the ACT English section (as well as the rest of the test) using a straight-forward method that sticks close to official tests issued by the test’s creators. I work with students to ensure that for each test question they understand: a) the “standard” way to find the correct answer, b) any ACT-specific shortcuts to find the answer faster, c) strategies for guessing if needed, and d) the general principles tested by the question. In this way we build familiarity with the test, and fill in any gaps in understanding as we go. Along the way, we also learn how to approach the test as a whole: general strategies for avoiding mistakes, time management, mindset, etc. I enjoy what I do, and I try to make the process enjoyable for my students as well. Please let me know if you have any questions about the process, or would like to schedule a lesson.

Algebra 1

Algebra 1

Every student walks their own path to an understanding of algebra. While teaching physics I encountered students who, despite having passed an algebra class, still needed to go back through the basics until they got what they needed, and got it in their own way. It was there I understood what patience and individual attention can accomplish. I’ve been teaching for over 20 years and I enjoy what I do. I will work with you (or your child) to keep you encouraged and moving toward the particular insights you need. Please let me know if you have any questions about the process, or would like to schedule a lesson.
Elementary Math

Elementary Math

My years in graduate school and teaching led me to an unexpected appreciation for the basics of mathematics, and a love for helping people find their own understanding of those basics. Everyone’s learning path is different, and I will work with you or your child in whatever way is needed to find those next steps toward understanding. I’m happy to work with students of all ages and needs. Please let me know if you have any questions about the process, or would like to schedule a lesson.
