I am a graduate of Mississippi State University where I received my BA in Communications with an emphasis on Theatre and my MA in Secondary Education. I also continue post-graduate for 18 additional Graduate hours in English Literature. I have been teaching students for 11 years and it is my passion to help them grasp the understanding of the content they struggle with.

I have experience working with struggling elementary readers and teaching junior high ELA, but the majority of my experience has been in High School and College level English. I have taught sections of English IV for 7 years, English III for 6 years, Comp I and II for 2 years, ACT Prep for English and Reading for 4 years, College Literacy for 1 year, and Theatre I-IV for 11 years. In addition to these courses, I am also certified to teach Public Speaking and creative writing courses.

In addition to teaching in the public school system for the past decade, I have also worked adjunct at the local community college as a dual credit English instructor and the director of the theatre in the Fine Arts Department. I am the sole person in charge of every theatrical production and aspect at the college, so I have been working with college students and adults by teaching and directing them for 7 years. There is no age I am uncomfortable guiding.

At home, I have a 4 year old that is starting school in the fall, and a 1 year old that tries to copy everything his older sister does. My kids have taught me how to teach and talk to not only older students but also kids that have no school experience as well.

I have offered crash courses in ACT English, Reading, and Writing for my Junior students and after my most recent review with them their scores raised at an overall 63% from their previous score. I am extremely familiar with these portions of the ACT and can easily break down the information to help students figure out how to find the correct answers.

ACT English

ACT English

I have taught an ACT Prep course for 6 years within my English III classes. It is an intensive coverage of the English and Reading portions of the test. After the prep course, I have seen my class average raise by up to 9pts across the board. I have extensive knowledge of these portions of the ACT and regularly score a perfect 36 in the sections when I take the pre and post tests with my students.
ACT Reading

ACT Reading

I have taught a section of ACT Prep once a year for the past 7 years where we cover the English and Reading portion of the ACT. It is a crash course with lots of practice and I have seen my class' average raise 9pts (many students go from 14s to 22s, as an example). I am extremely familiar with the ACT and these specific portions and can help explain it in a way that is easily understood for what the test is looking for.

Public Speaking

I am a theatre person and have taught intro to theatre to high school freshmen. Within this course, we spend a majority of the time working on confidence and how to deliver information to an audience without having any worries. In addition to theatre, I have also led a Senior Project for 7 years that includes me teaching 50 students yearly how to give a formal presentation to a panel of judges. We work on how to organize information, how to pick topics, and how to add confidence.
