I am a graduate of Mississippi State University where I received my BA in Communications with an emphasis on Theatre and my MA in Secondary Education. I also continue post-graduate for 18 additional Graduate hours in English Literature. I have been teaching students for 11 years and it is my passion to help them grasp the understanding of the content they struggle with.
I have experience working with struggling elementary readers and teaching junior high ELA, but the majority of my experience has been in High School and College level English. I have taught sections of English IV for 7 years, English III for 6 years, Comp I and II for 2 years, ACT Prep for English and Reading for 4 years, College Literacy for 1 year, and Theatre I-IV for 11 years. In addition to these courses, I am also certified to teach Public Speaking and creative writing courses.
In addition to teaching in the public school system for the past decade, I have also worked adjunct at the local community college as a dual credit English instructor and the director of the theatre in the Fine Arts Department. I am the sole person in charge of every theatrical production and aspect at the college, so I have been working with college students and adults by teaching and directing them for 7 years. There is no age I am uncomfortable guiding.
At home, I have a 4 year old that is starting school in the fall, and a 1 year old that tries to copy everything his older sister does. My kids have taught me how to teach and talk to not only older students but also kids that have no school experience as well.
I have offered crash courses in ACT English, Reading, and Writing for my Junior students and after my most recent review with them their scores raised at an overall 63% from their previous score. I am extremely familiar with these portions of the ACT and can easily break down the information to help students figure out how to find the correct answers.
