Hi! I’m Colin, a high school graduate attending UPenn this fall and hoping to major in Math and English. Fittingly, I'm looking to tutor high schoolers in math (preferably calculus) and writing.

Hi! I’m Colin, a high school graduate attending UPenn this fall and hoping to major in Math and English. Fittingly, I'm looking to tutor high schoolers in math (preferably calculus) and writing.
I’ve served as a math tutor for every year of high school, providing one-on-one assistance to others my age with everything from Geometry to AP Calculus. Additionally, I’ve helped out with a math outreach program for two years, designing and leading math lessons for kids at the local library. This past year, I was an English peer tutor, advising high school English papers. Also around this time, I provided critiques for a number of my classmates’ college essays, many of whom would go on to get into their top choices.
When it comes to tutoring math, I like opening with questions—about what you already know, and then things you don’t know yet. From there, we move into an introductory practice problem. I’ll be there to guide, but it’s really important to me that it feels like you solved the problem. If I see that there are difficulties, then we’ll take a step back. To ensure strong conceptual understanding, I often draw diagrams; I love visual representations, especially in Calculus.
Writing is a bit different. If you haven’t started on a draft yet, I’ll have questions to direct you to an idea. If you have a draft, I’ll make comments and recommendations. Furthermore, I’ll have examples ready to clarify any advice that I give (especially for college essay writing).
No matter the subject, I think it’s important to always have outside practice available. I’m always open to providing extra practice problems, videos for supplementary learning, and other resources.
What I really want you to get out of my tutoring is a love for these topics. I don’t think there’s anything more powerful for someone’s education than having fun while learning. Of course, not everything is fun for everyone, but I’m going to try my hardest to make these topics fun for you. If you’re okay with that, I’d love to be your tutor!
