In addition to Language Arts related support, I have a lot of experience helping students with their overall academic success with areas such as study skills and learning strategies. I have experience with writing and research and often help students with grammar and proofreading. I have experience helping students prepare for the English portion of the ACT. I have 10+ years experience teaching and tutoring students in many forms of writing, including college composition, essay writing, creative writing, fiction writing, poetry, and nonfiction writing. I also coach thesis writing.
I love to help students find their writing voices and become confident in their abilities. I believe that everyone can develop the ability to communicate clearly in writing, and I have helped many people improve their skills. My personal goal for my students is that they feel ready to succeed in all writing-intensive courses.
Currently, I teach and tutor at two colleges in the St. Louis area. I have taught developmental English, English Composition I and II, and World Literature, among other subjects at the undergraduate level. I teach Creative Nonfiction, including memoir and the personal essay, at the graduate level. I am also a published poet and essayist. I have worked as an English tutor at two college writing centers. I have level II certification with the College Reading and Learning Association.
I have an EdD (Doctor of Education) from Maryville University, a Master's Degree in Writing from Lindenwood University, a Master's Degree in Asian Studies from Washington University, and a Bachelor's Degree in Chinese Language from Washington University.
