My creative writing, other than letters to the editor, was first published in 1988. I have been writing regularly ever since. My interests include local history, etymology, vocabulary, dialect and reading in a variety of subject areas. I own, probably, the only 20-volume set of the Oxford English Dictionary (OED) in a wide area. No local library owns the set! I have written one book concerning phrases in our language with origins in the King James Bible, in which the OED was consulted...
I have written one book concerning phrases in our language with origins in the King James Bible, in which the OED was consulted heavily. I have many other book ideas and am presently at work on a book of profiles of local ministers. I write local history articles for newsletters and newspapers in the area. With my wife, I edit and publish books, mainly on local history.
I have worked full-time as a proofreader for four years. Writing was involved in several positions I have had. I have taught in the public school and prefer private, one-on-one or small group instruction.
In tutoring I will of course try to achieve the parents' objectives. I would also hope to instill in the students my love for language. The more vocabulary and language history a person knows, the less likely he or she will be use trite phrases and the better able to communicate orally and in writing.
