I am a Doctor of English and a Literature, Rhetoric, and Composition instructor at the University level since 2014. I am TEFL/TESOL certified as of December 2020. From 2015 through the present, I have privately tutored students from middle school to college and graduate programs in a variety of reading and writing-intensive subjects. I get great satisfaction from helping my clients create individualized learning goals and watching them grow and succeed.

I have a Doctorate in English (PhD), a Masters from the University of Iowa and a BA in English and History from William Jewel College and the University of Oxford (UK). In the Spring of 2020 I was given St. Louis University's Fournier Award for Outstanding Teaching and I also completed a Certificate in University Teaching Skills through the Reinert Center for Transformative Teaching and Learning. I am qualified for public secondary school teaching in the state of Missouri.

I can offer consistent tutoring to supplement children’s education during the school year and I also offer shorter-term project-specific assistance for students who are struggling with a long paper and need a little extra support. I particularly love working with high school seniors embarking on the exciting (yet challenging) task of college applications.

I have extensive experience working with neurodiverse students, including children and teens with ADHD, autism, anxiety, and depression, for whom the support of a non-family member adult can be especially beneficial. I am passionate about accompanying my students as they grow and find time management strategies that work well for them.

This is an opportunity to access private tutoring from a university instructor who is ready to help you or your child meet individualized learning goals!

My subjects include: English, Writing, Reading, Literature, Proofreading, Grammar, US History, European History, World History, Time Management, Public Speaking, and College Application Help

Can’t rate HIGHLY enough!

I worked with Kathryn to write a research paper and personal statement for my college application and I really feel like I hit the jackpot with her. Kathryn is extremely knowledgeable, unwaveringly patient, and deeply supportive. She is curious about her students and always able to be flexible and adaptable in the moment. She is excellent about making the most of your time and goes above and beyond to give you all the tools you need to be successful. Her personality is warm, personable, and empathetic. I would give her 10 stars if I could!

Very helpful.

She helped me with my composition paper by teaching me how to structure it correctly. She was very easy to talk with and explained everything so well. She was very helpful and I feel confident I'll receive a high mark on my paper. I am looking forward to future sessions!

Undeniably the best at Tutoring

Obviously, you are here because you need assistance with your studies, education, work, etc. Like you, I was apprehensive about whether or not I would find a tutor who has the knowledge and understanding to help. Well, look no further; Kathryn is your person. I am currently a doctoral student, and Kathryn has helped me tremendously. I am not saying she knows everything, but she knows how to find out anything. Kathryn's accomplishments speak for themselves.

Review of Kathryn P / Really Terrific!

Kathryn tutored our son for about 20 sessions over this summer. Our son is entering 11th grade this fall and Kathryn tutored him in AP US History (APUSH) and in expository writing. She did a really terrific job, helping him to improve in both areas. We'd love to use her again if something relevant came up, and we highly recommend her.

Kathryn is knowledgeable, patient, and professional and

My 17 year old has something to say about everything and after his first session when asked how it went, the reply was GREAT. Hopefully we will be able to continue with Kathryn until he feels confident in his skills.

Encouraging and supportive!

When I was freaking out about a paper and not sure where to go with it or how to focus it, she was super helpful offering candid feedback in a supportive way. I am keeping her in my very short list of go-to tutors!
