For the past 23 years I have tutored students in the St. Louis metro area who struggled with reading. My experience spans with students preschool through adult levels that attended public school, private school, online and have been home schooled. I recently moved to Michigan and am looking forward to working with new families and sharing my experience. I specialize in working with students who require alternative approaches to achieve success in learning.

Working in the field of Education my entire life, I encountered distinct differences in each child’s ability to acquire skills in Literacy. By continued research, gaining new skills and receiving certificates in a variety of programs, I developed an individualized approach utilizing these programs. It combines research-based strategies to ensure success. Students as young as seven years of age have remarked, “I know this program will work.” Student confidence builds and they are excited to embrace their newly learned abilities. This gives them a greater appreciation and motivation for their educational experience.

I currently possess a B.S. Education with Certifications in Elementary Education K-8 and Special Education K-12. I have acquired certificates in several multisensory reading programs. The following programs are the Wilson Reading/Language programs, Spire and Step Up to Writing. In addition, I have been trained in the Great Leaps program, the Rewards program and a multisensory grammar program.

My varied experiences provides me with a clear picture of each student’s needs. I have worked with students that have been diagnosed with ADHD, Autism, Dyslexia, Specific Language Disabilities and Cognitive Impairment. I provide an extensive evaluation to support the educational program that I create for each individual student. I empower parents by assisting them with advocacy for their children. I thoroughly enjoy working with parents that have a sincere interest in supporting the programs.

ADHD

ADHD

While working as a Literacy Specialist, I’ve encountered students that also have been diagnosed with ADHD along with other learning differences. By adapting the lesson to meet the needs of the student with ADHD, I am able to develop a relationship and strategies that assists in the learning process. An example of this is getting up from the desk and moving around the room or exercising to regain focus.
Dyslexia

Dyslexia

I have been instructing students with Dyslexia and other learning differences in Reading for 25+ years. I have combined my unique techniques with the Wilson Reading Program to gain phenomenal results. By attending national and state conferences, I’ve acquired training and certification in a variety of multi sensory programs.
Elementary (K-6th)

Elementary (K-6th)

I develop individual programs for students K-8. This includes students requiring assistance attending public and private schools as well as the homeschooling environment. My responsibilities include assisting students with skill development in each subject area. By creating a trusting relationship the students are encouraged to work diligently for me. This environment builds confidence and fosters huge gains in each subject. They enjoy each session and welcome the assistance that I provide.
Homeschool

Homeschool

During the course of my tutorial experience, I spent seven years working with students that have been homeschooled. Parents requested that I provide tutoring for their children who were struggling with reading. I found it quite rewarding developing a partnership with parents and assisting them in the development of programming for their children. This enabled parents to easily teach reading daily and support my tutorial program. In addition, I empowered parents by assisting them with advocating for their children.
Phonics

Phonics

The Wilson Reading/Language program and Spire program provided me with essential training to teach children with dyslexia. This gave me the necessary instruction in phonics to assist students with decoding, encoding and auditory discrimination issues. By acquiring the proper tools, I was able to experience a high rate of success with all of my students.
Special Needs

Special Needs

Throughout my career I have taught students with a variety of learning differences. This gave me the opportunity to develop programs to meet their individual needs. In my search, I utilized many different multisensory programs as well as created self-made materials to be used with my instruction. These programs provide a structure when instructing students with special needs.

Masterful tutor

Carol has been working with my son on reading, writing, and spelling, for over 3 years now. In that time, he went from an illiterate 8-year-old to reading beyond high school level as an 11-year-old. Carol has been masterful in her ability to bring out the latent brilliance lying beneath my son's dyslexia. Before working with Carol, my son had been working with another tutor who was treating him as though he were a kindergartener, giving him meaningless (yet mandatory) busy work assignments, and letting him tread water. We are so lucky that we found Carol and the Wilson Method! Her approach has been just the ticket to getting my son to where he is now. He has simply soared under her tutleage. We couldn't be more grateful for her.
