I have differentiated my teaching approach by providing hands-on laboratory exercises; exit tickets consisting of verbal reasoning, graphic interpretation, and multiple choice exercises; and providing one-on-one and group study sessions for students who are struggling with difficult concepts. Spiral review is also a component of our rigorous teaching plan as a means to ensure that difficult concepts and terminology are revisited and/or retaught on a regular basis. I also maintain open communication with parents to keep them involved in their students’ learning process. Through this experience, I have learned how to reach as many students as possible with my content knowledge.
While teaching graduate students at GUMC, I have learned to hone my neurophysiology lectures to meet the needs of students from various backgrounds ranging from basic biology to neuroscience. Additionally, having directed and taught a research paper course, wherein students review literature based on the physiology of a disease of their choosing, I have learned to hone writing skills of students. One of my most interesting experiences was leading a discussion forum following various talks given by experts in physiology and health policy.
