Hello! My name is David, and I am a professional data analyst at Washington University in St. Louis. My specialty areas for tutoring include: high school math (algebra through calculus), college-level statistics, and computer programming (R, SQL, and SPSS). I am new to Wyzant, but I have been tutoring on the Varsity Tutors platform since 2020 and have consistently earned 5-star reviews from the students I worked with.
I have experience working with a wide range of grade levels and age groups, including elementary school, high school, and college. I served as a teaching assistant while enrolled in a psychology MA program at the University of Nebraska - Omaha (UNO; from 2016-2018) where I assisted with undergraduate psychology courses, including statistics and research methods. I was well-known in the department for my dedication and eagerness to work with students. More recently, I have worked as a high school math tutor at EYC Academy in St. Louis (algebra 1 and geometry) and as a professional tutor on both the Varsity Tutors platform and as a private instructor (statistics, R programming, and research methods). Although I prefer to work with high school and college students, I have also taught phonics and arithmetic for pre-K and kindergarten (Kumon Math and Reading Center in Omaha, NE, 2017-2018).
I was a consistently strong student throughout my schooling, earning a 4.0 GPA throughout college. Although both of my degrees are in psychology, I have earned high grades in college-level chemistry, biology, and mathematics courses and feel very comfortable tutoring these subjects. I have an easygoing, engaging, and patient personality, and I am skilled at explaining math concepts in an approachable manner using my background in academic research. I have sought out mentorship opportunities in every position I have held, believing firmly that, as a young professional who intends to pursue a career in academia, it is incumbent on me to provide support and guidance to the next generation of scientific minds.
