English tutor/ ACT exam prep tutor

I began tutoring in ACT test prep at a nationally-franchised tutoring center in Los Angeles in 2015. My students routinely see 10-point increases on their Reading and English scores. My favorite teaching experiences have been those in which I help a frustrated student not only develop the skills needed to get a better score on the ACT, but also begin to see the English language as a tool to eloquently express himself or herself.

Preparing for the ACT can be frustrating, and students can grow weary of trying to do well on a test that seems arbitrary and mysterious. I encourage my students not to be intimidated by the test, and I also try to build their confidence in their own abilities by going over practice tests with them, reviewing their performance on the practice tests, and discussing their state of mind while taking the tests.

I can tutor students on the English, Reading and Science sections of the ACT.

Since May 2015, when I began tutoring for a nationally franchised tutoring center in Los Angeles, my ACT English section and ACT Reading section students have regularly seen ten-point gains on the Reading and English sections of the ACT. I have been working for 19 years as a writer, so I work to use language well, and to express an idea clearly. This helps me explain to students what they might find confusing and challenging about English grammar. Literature and writing are my passions.
