Hello! I am currently in my third year of teaching high school art. The courses I teach include: Intro to Art, Drawing, Painting, Sculpture/Fibers, Ceramics - Handbuilding, and Ceramics - Wheel Throwing. I graduated with my Masters in Teaching in both Art Education and Special Ed from Notre Dame of Maryland University in Baltimore, MD. Before making the career change to teaching, I was a graphic designer and art director at various companies here in St. Louis including a publishing house. Art, family, and friends are the most important things in my life. I have traveled extensively throughout the United States and have exhibited my work professionally in galleries in both St. Louis and Kansas City.
I am very patient and encouraging as an art tutor. I can provide constructive feedback in the same way you would experience in a meeting with colleagues. My teaching philosophy revolves around the idea that making art is a lot like baking. Once you learn the ingredients (elements of art) and the recipe (skills and techniques), with a little practice, you can create a masterpiece. You will be amazed at how far you can expand your skill set.
I have a Masters in Special Education and am extremely familiar working with students with disabilities. I know how to interpret the needs of the student upon meeting them. I completed six graduate-level courses in special education along with a seven-week internship in a self-contained school (K–12). In addition, I have tutored math and language arts to students with IEPs.
