I’m Abby, I went to college to become an elementary teacher and got a Bachelors of Science degree in Liberal Studies. My college education provided me with a strong foundation in elementary education and core subjects, including mathematics, reading, and writing. I am currently working toward my Missouri elementary teaching certification. Through my coursework and classroom experience, I have developed an understanding of differentiated instruction and how to adapt lessons to meet my student’s individual learning needs.
I have experience teaching students from kindergarten through fifth grade through multiple student-teaching placements. Each semester, I was placed in a classroom, where I observed and taught lessons in subjects including reading, writing and mathematics. During my final semester, I completed my full-time student teaching in a fifth grade classroom, teaching all core subjects. I then worked as fourth grade teacher, in a private school, for the last half of the 2024-2025 school year, where I taught all subjects. Using what I learned in college I planned and delivered instructions, assessed student progress, provided individualized support, and worked with students in whole-class, small-group, and individual settings.
Although I do not have formal tutoring experience, my teaching background has given me extensive experience providing additional instruction and support to students who need extra practice or a different approach. My teaching style is patient, encouraging, and student-centered, I begin by identifying what a student already understands, then determine where they need support and use clear explanations, examples, guided practices and individualized strategies to help them succeed. I am confident tutoring elementary students in reading, writing, and mathematics, and aim to help each student build both academic skills and confidence in their ability to learn individually.
