Hi, my name is Brett and I recently graduated with my Bachelor’s degree in Physics and Mathematics from WashU. Starting out in college, I did not have a strong physics background and struggled to keep up with my classmates. To learn a new subject, I needed to learn how to follow a process and think in new, unfamiliar ways. When I decided to pursue a second major in formal mathematics, I faced a similar challenge. Clear explanations and patience from my professors and peers helped me to learn the skills that I was missing and develop confidence in myself and my ability to solve problems on my own. I am so thankful to those that went the extra mile to help me achieve academic success, and I extend the same philosophy to others. I believe everyone is capable of learning difficult things and I strive to find new ways to approach an explanation until understanding is reached. I believe in meeting students’ individual needs by developing curriculum that will fill any gaps in knowledge and encouraging an intuitive understanding of the topic.
I have multiple years of tutoring experience across high school and college. I tutored Spanish for two years, working one-on-one with students to explain grammar concepts and practice vocabulary. During this time, I also used my Spanish skills to tutor ESL students on practical math concepts and developed and taught Spanish curriculum for elementary students. In college, I was a member of a club that volunteered to tutor under-resourced elementary students after school. These experiences have taught me that a student’s academic success isn’t just about what they know, but also about reinforcing academic strategies and supporting their emotional wellbeing.
If you feel that you are struggling with a new subject (Math / Physics / Spanish / Music), or just want to dive into any of these subjects, I would love to work with you to meet your goals. Please reach out if you have any additional questions or want to schedule a lesson!
