Hello! My name is Katie, and I'm a biomedical researcher with over 8 years of experience working in academic laboratories at Washington University School of Medicine. I earned my Bachelor of Science in Biology with a minor in Creative and Professional Writing from Saint Louis University, where I developed a strong foundation in both scientific analysis and clear communication. My research focuses on fluid biomarkers of Alzheimer's disease, and through this work I've gained extensive experience analyzing biological data, interpreting results, and explaining complex scientific concepts in a clear and accessible way. I also previously worked as an editorial assistant at a scientific journal, which strengthened my ability to critically evaluate research and communicate scientific ideas effectively.
In addition to my research background, I have significant experience in scientific writing and editing. As a managing editor for a graduate student writing service, I worked closely with students on abstracts, research papers, grant proposals, and medical school personal statements. In this role, I helped students refine their ideas, improve organization and develop clear, compelling arguments.
As a tutor, my goal is to help students build both understanding and confidence. I've worked with more than 20 students, ranging from elementary school through college, and I'm comfortable supporting a wide range of subjects, including biology and life sciences, academic writing, research methods and basic math. I approach tutoring as a collaborative process, where I adapt my teaching style to each student's needs and learning preferences. I focus on breaking down complex material into manageable steps, reinforcing key concepts, and helping students develop problem-solving strategies they can apply independently. Whether you're preparing for an exam, working on a research project or looking to strengthen your writing, I strive to provide clear guidance, practical tools and supportive instruction to help you succeed!
