Hello learner!
I have a passion for learning & teaching that is clearly evident from my various life experiences. That passion started at a young age, but matured in my junior year of high school when I decided to pursue an engineering career. To help pay for college, while in high school I worked towards earning the Missouri A+ Program scholarship. One of the requirements was to complete at least 40 hours of tutoring, which I accomplished by tutoring peers at Seckman High School in math and helping a teacher at Seckman Elementary in her classroom. After graduating from Seckman in 2006, I attended Jefferson College in Hillsboro, MO, where I was a member of the honor society Phi Theta Kappa, worked as a peer tutor, and ultimately earned an A.S. in Engineering.
In 2008, I transferred to Missouri University of Science and Technology (S&T) in Rolla, MO, to pursue an engineering degree. But, due to changing academic interests, during my first semester I chose to switch my major to biological sciences. Because of a family tragedy and other personal factors, my academic performance became inconsistent, and I eventually made the decision to enlist into the United States Navy. In the Navy, I worked as a nuclear-trained Electrician’s Mate, then later as a recruiter.
In 2017, I realized that my true calling was to become a physician. In order to fulfill that calling, I chose to separate from the Navy in 2020 and re-enroll at S&T to finish my B.S. degree and get vital pre-medical advising. During this second period at S&T, I worked for the newly-founded Kummer Center for STEM Education as a tutor for local K-12 students. Since graduating from S&T in December 2022, I have earned a M.S. in Medical Sciences from Creighton University, and have been working as a substitute teacher for Fox C-6 School District while I work to get accepted into medical school.
In my various educational roles, I have helped hundreds of students make breakthroughs in understanding. I am confident that I can help you do the same!
