From a very young age, curiosity for this world's knowledge has been the driving force in my life. Currently in my late twenties, I have had a range of experiences that has only served to further incorporate my inborn wonderment with the world as an essential part of my story and character.
Throughout my childhood, I performed great within school, graduating high school with honors and a 4.09 GPA. I achieved a 5 on the BC Calculus Exam at the end of my senior year and matriculated to Washington University in St. Louis with a scholarship. At the same time, I had finished learning my first piece of advanced piano music, Scott Joplin's Maple Leaf Rag, letting the thrill of the music guide me more than the fact of its difficulty ever could.
I earned over 60 college credits during my time there, including subjects such as Multivariable Calculus and General Physics. Not having yet earned a degree due to needing time away because of health reasons, my thirst for knowledge was never quenched, and my desire to expand my mind only ever increased. During this time away from formal education, I have been able to drill down on how to truly teach myself in the absence of a classroom setting in which I have always thrived. My studies have become more well-rounded as a result and I have become more understanding of the various ways knowledge can be imparted.
I am currently in the process of reapplying to school for Electrical Engineering through a work program which covers the cost of tuition. I teach math by ensuring the student understands the core concepts first before drilling the application through problem sets.
I have still been playing the piano and now have Mozart, Chopin, and Rachmaninoff in my repertoire as well. I have volunteer music literacy teaching experience in an elementary classroom setting but prefer to teach older kids and up. Historical context is indispensable in tackling piano music. Instructions to play hide within the time period as well as the score.
