I am a retired Special Education Teacher who taught for nearly 30 years. I have experience teaching students with a variety of abilities and needs. My belief is that all students can learn. My task as an educator is to find the most successful method(s) that will promote engagement and successful learning.

I am also a parent of two children who are now adults. One of my children had special needs and required special services. As these services were beneficial to my child, I found it necessary to tutor him every night myself. So, I have sat on both sides of the table so to speak! I look forward to meeting your child and helping him/her make progress in their educational goals.

Through my years of teaching, I developed unique methods to teach my students basic math functions. In addition to this, I also was successful in teaching life skills that required math.

I am the type of teacher that believes that students who are struggling to read need to be taught the basic fundamental skills of reading. I use a combination of phonics, sight word recognition, repetition and frequent checks for understanding with my students. A solid foundation is essential when learning to read and understanding what you have read.

Through my years of teaching and raising my own family, I have worked with a variety of children with special needs. While a diagnosis is helpful in how you approach a child from an educational point of view, it does not describe the whole child. It is my duty to familiarize myself with how to best work with the child including his/ her preferences and personality.
