That whole year I decided to teach myself English which definitely improved once living here, emerged fully in the culture once again.
Nowadays there's way more outlets/resources to help you get to a better level of the language with apps and technology in general. I notice this with my kids who love learning with apps but having a guidance, someone to point you to the right direction (especially pronunciation) makes a big difference. I combine technology along with very good books I acquired working at the Alliance Francaise, most well known French school around the world, makes for a big difference and helps me figure out how my students learn better, what technique keeps them motivated, wanting to learn more, therefore commit to the lessons since we all learn differently and at our own pace but consistency is key.
Since I moved to the States I've been tutoring both, French and Spanish, on and off. Once I had kids I slowed way down but now that they re older and in school, my time has freed up more, having me excited to get back to tutoring again. There are a lot of similarities in the way the grammar is structured for both Spanish and French, given they're both Roman languages, and at the same time it’s completely different than English which is a Germanic language. It can be challenging at first but once again with consistency it all starts falling into place.
