Hi! I’m Joanne. I hold a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering and the equivalent of a math minor. I LOVE math and science. I have been tutoring students in these subjects since high school. I received honors in high school for my understanding of math. During college, I tutored in a tutoring center. Hi! I’m Joanne. I hold a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering and the equivalent of a math minor. I LOVE math and science. I have been tutoring students in these subjects since high school. I received honors in high school for my understanding of math. During college, I tutored in a tutoring center. After 9 years at Motorola designing circuit boards for cell phone base stations, I became a mother and then homeschooled my 4 children. For the last 17 years I have been homeschooling where I have taught many subjects. Homeschooling is essentially one-on-one tutoring. In a co-op classroom setting, I have taught Physics, Algebra 2, Geometry, STEM, Electronics, and Gym as well as coached volleyball and softball for over 7 years. I have had students tell me later that their time in my class sparked their desire to enter robotics competitions and the engineering field.

My goal with tutoring is to help the student not just understand how to solve a problem, but to understand “the why”. I want them to be able to retain what they learn and be able to apply it years later. I use the Socratic method to draw out what the student already knows and help them make connections. Everyone has different learning styles, so I provide multiple different ways to make the math and science topics understandable to the student. I have patiently drawn pictures, created songs, made up acronyms, worked out actions, created 3 dimensional objects, etc., all with the goal of helping my student grasp the material. I help my students explore the different ways to solve the problem so that they can find the way that makes the most sense to them. There is nothing better than hearing a student say “Ah Ha! I get it now”.

I have worked with elementary through high school students, as well as adults in college. I have a passion for teaching and would love to help you on your journey.

An excellent tutor

Pre-algebra was required for my daughter, who is currently in the 7th grade, in order to move on to algebra in the 8th grade. She is an excellent tutor, and I strongly suggest her. She initially failed her first test with a 72, but because to the tutoring Mrs. Joanne provided, she has since passed with a 92 on the test she had to repeat. I want to express that I'm incredibly grateful for everything she has done for my daughter. She has excellent parent-child communication that is beneficial. enough assignments to keep my daughter engaged with the subject. "I couldn't have done it without her guidance'" my daughter says. A 92 from 72 is a significant improvement. She is a fantastic person, and I cannot say this enough. Even if your in middle school or college. She's able to do it.
