Helping struggling readers find their voice — one sound at a time.

Hi, I'm Jillian! I'm a retired Missouri public school educator with 25+ years in the classroom and over a decade of private tutoring experience working one-on-one with students who have dyslexia and reading difficulties. I founded Always Better English because I believe every child deserves to become a confident, capable reader — and I've seen it happen, even when families had given up hope.
My approach is rooted in the Barton Reading and Spelling System, an Orton-Gillingham based method proven by research to work specifically for students with dyslexia. We begin with a thorough intake so I know exactly where your child is in the learning sequence, and we build from there — one skill at a time.
I work with students in grades K-8. Sessions cover decoding, phonemic awareness, phonics, spelling, and written expression. For students in grades 5-8 who have completed the Barton sequence, I also provide advanced curriculum support to help transfer skills into classroom reading and writing.
A note on commitment: research and experience both show that two sessions per week is the minimum for meaningful, measurable progress with dyslexia intervention. I only take students whose families are ready to make that commitment — because your child's success matters too much to do this halfway.
All sessions are 100% online via Zoom. I bring the materials, the structure, and the expertise. You just need a computer, a good headset, and a student who's ready to work.
I am an approved ClassWallet ESA vendor in Missouri, South Carolina, Alabama, Arizona, and Florida. Families using state ESA funds are welcome.
