Bio

I am a retired elementary music teacher with 25 years of educational experience. I love to help students of all ages and abilities tap into their creative musical side and realize their full potential. I have taught everything from composition to performance, both at the elementary level and at the middle school and high school level. I believe that the power of the arts, and specifically music, can make this world a better place.

I love to see the "lights come on" in a students mind when they understand a concept. It could be writing a great melodic line or playing or singing a hard passage that's been a struggle. I have had those same struggles and can relate. One on one tutoring is a great vehicle for the arts, as it provides intense, individual instruction.

I have a Bachelor of Music Education degree from Baylor University. I have had instruction in music theory, music history, sight singing, voice and general music. I have 25+ years of experience as an elementary music specialist. I have been responsible for classroom instruction, as well as producing large group performances. I have experience in choral directing as well.

If you are looking for a tutor to help with basic music instruction, theory, sight singing, music history or theory, I am your person! I am ready and eager to get started!

Sight Singing

Not only do I have experience with teaching the young voice to sing and read music, my "instrument" in college was voice. I have experience singing in small ensembles and large choirs, all which require sight singing. As a teacher I use solfege as my medium.

Voice (Music)

While obtaining my Music Education degree at Baylor University, I made voice my primary instrument. I have had years of vocal training and have offered voice lessons for students from the age of 9 to 18. I enjoy teaching vocal techniques and have tried and true methods to get the best results.
