Hello! My name is Jonah, and I am a Missouri-certified high school science teacher with six years of classroom teaching experience. I hold two bachelor's degrees, one in Physics and one in Linguistics, an MA and PhD in Linguistics, and an Education Specialist degree in K–12 Educational Leadership. Throughout my career, I have taught and mentored students with a wide range of academic backgrounds, learning styles, and goals.
I currently teach high school science courses including Biology and Zoology (and have previously taught Earth Science, Intro to Health Studies, and Forensic Science), and have served for years as both Science Dept chair and STEM Academy Leader of my school. I have extensive experience helping students strengthen their skills in mathematics, scientific reasoning, reading, and test preparation. In addition to classroom teaching, I frequently work one-on-one with students who needed extra support, enrichment, or preparation for major exams. My educational background allows me to combine strong content knowledge with practical teaching strategies that help students understand difficult concepts and build confidence.
My approach to tutoring focuses on identifying the specific obstacles preventing a student from succeeding and then developing a personalized plan to address them. I believe students learn best when they understand not only the correct answer, but also the reasoning behind it. Whether we are working on Algebra, Biology, ACT Math, ACT Science, or other academic subjects, I emphasize clear explanations, problem-solving strategies, and skills that students can continue using independently.
I enjoy helping students achieve their goals, whether that means improving classroom grades, preparing for an important exam, building confidence in a challenging subject, or reaching ambitious college admissions targets. I look forward to helping each student develop both the knowledge and the confidence needed for long-term success.
