I bring over seven years of university-level teaching and program development experience to my tutoring practice. After earning my PhD in English with a specialization in Writing Studies from SUNY Binghamton, I served as both a professor and Writing Center Director at Arkansas State University. My academic background includes published research in sound studies and writing pedagogy, which informs my approach to helping students find their authentic academic voice.

Throughout my career, I've worked extensively with diverse student populations, from first-generation college students to international ESL learners to STEM majors tackling complex research writing. As Writing Center Director, I provided one-on-one consultations to hundreds of students aged 18-50+, helping them navigate everything from freshman essays to doctoral dissertations. I achieved 300% growth in our center's usage during my first year by developing recognition-based teaching methods that acknowledge students' existing intelligence while building their confidence. This philosophy drives my tutoring approach—I believe every student already possesses unique insights; my role is to help them articulate these effectively.

My expertise extends beyond traditional essay writing to specialized areas including grant writing and STEM communication. I've personally secured 365,668 in competitive grants including350,000 from the National Science Foundation, giving me unique insight into high-stakes academic writing. Whether working with undergraduates on research papers, graduate students on thesis projects, or professionals improving their academic writing, I tailor my methods to each individual's goals and learning style, ensuring they develop lasting skills for future success.

About Airek Education Ph.D. in Writing Studies, SUNY Binghamton M.A. in English, Southeast Missouri State University Certificate in College Teaching: Composition Experience I spent ten years teaching writing at the university level—everything from developmental writing and first-year composition to graduate-level composition theory. I've worked with first-generation college students, international ESL learners, STEM majors, and doctoral candidates writing dissertations. Beyond the classroom, I directed writing support programs, including an online writing center that grew 300% in its first year. I trained and supervised tutors, designed curriculum, and built embedded tutoring programs across multiple disciplines. I co-authored two first-year composition textbooks still in use today. What This Means for Your Student I don't just teach writing—I understand how students learn to write. My background in writing studies means I know the research on what actually works: how to break down complex skills, how to give feedback that sticks, and how to build student confidence alongside competence. I'm familiar with AP and College Board assessment standards, and I currently work with AP Seminar and AP Lang students navigating those rubrics. I know what scorers are looking for—and how to help students get there. My Approach I meet students where they are. I make the invisible visible—decoding assignments, demystifying rubrics, and teaching the thinking moves that transfer across contexts. My goal isn't to create dependency; it's to build independent, confident writers who understand what they're doing and why.

Essay Writing

With seven years as a university professor and Writing Center Director, I've successfully guided students from freshman essays through doctoral dissertations across all academic disciplines. I've published academic textbooks, secured major grant funding, including from the National Science Foundation, and developed specialized programs for ESL students, STEM writers, and first-generation college students. My students consistently praise my ability to break down complex writing tasks into manageable steps while building their confidence and skills. I bring both scholarly expertise and practical experience to help students excel in any writing challenge.
Thesis Writing

Thesis Writing

Having successfully completed my own PhD dissertation at SUNY Binghamton—which uniquely involved convening and studying an interdisciplinary group of dissertation writers—I bring both scholarly research and lived experience to thesis coaching. This meta-approach to studying the dissertation process while experiencing it myself gives me unparalleled insight into the challenges graduate students face across all disciplines. At Arkansas State University, I directed writing support for seven years and created an innovative doctoral framework that helped hundreds of graduate students complete their theses and dissertations. My approach combines practical project management with deep understanding of how disciplinary conventions shape academic identity, helping students navigate committee dynamics, overcome writing blocks, and produce scholarship that authentically represents their contributions to their fields.
