While I am relatively new in Wyzant, I bring over 10 years of professional tutoring experience to my students in an online platform! In addition to that, my degrees prepared me to be an effective, patient, and thorough tutor in challenging areas like mathematics, writing, and test preparation. I pride myself at taking extra time to invest in my students beyond just solving the problem at hand, and strive to learn how to build a connection meant to foster stronger retention of material by relating material to something more personal than a textbook. All learners are different, and I enjoy discovering the type of learner I am working with.
When it comes to my mathematics tutoring style, I believe in a practical approach with the end goal being to ensure that students are equipped to improvise and adapt to new problems. I have served as a TA for course materials from traditional Algebra II/Trigonometry courses through Calculus I at the college level. My goal is to assist students with mastering the underlying concepts in the material they are struggling with, not to just show them how to solve the problem. I have experience with assisting students with AP and IB coursework, as well as quantitative preparation for formal exams such as, but not limited to: ACT, SAT, GREs, GEDs, GMATs, MCATs, and LSATs.
When it comes to my approach for writing, I have given lectures to undergraduate and graduate courses on best practices for enhancing academic writing, specifically in an APA format. Writing is an extension of our thought process and personality, and I strive to help students shine by embedding their writing with both well-founded arguments and style. My goal with tutoring is to hope that I can empower my students with confidence and self-efficacy towards their work.
