I'm Carrie, and I've been teaching high school English for 17 years. I earned my BA from Truman State University and my Master's in Education from University of Missouri - St. Louis. I am certified in English, history, and special education, and I've worked with students with many different learning styles and ability levels over the years. Most of my experience has been with students in grades 9-12, both in the classroom and in smaller group or one-on-one settings. I love helping students feel more confident in their reading and writing skills because I know English can sometimes feel frustrating or overwhelming. My goal is always to make things feel more manageable and clear while helping students actually understand what they are doing instead of just getting through an assignment.

One thing that really helps me as a tutor is that I've spent so many years working with all kinds of students, including struggling readers, reluctant writers, honors students, and students with learning differences. I helped write English curriculum for my district, mentored new teachers, and regularly work with students on essay writing, literary analysis, grammar, and test preparation. I try to keep my teaching style patient, supportive, and realistic. I know every student learns differently, so I focus on finding strategies that work for them instead of using the exact same approach for everyone. I want students to feel comfortable asking questions, making mistakes, and building confidence step by step. My goal is not only to help students improve their grades, but also to help them feel more capable and less stressed when it comes to English.
