I am a biologist (B.S., Reed College) and ecologist (Ph.D., Cornell University) with a decade of experience in biological and ecological research, data analysis, scientific writing, and teaching. My academic and research training has given me a solid foundation in biology, ecology, environmental science, and chemistry as well as statistics and scientific methodology. I am also highly experienced with R/R Studio for data management, statistical analysis, and visualization, and I have extensive experience writing grants and peer-reviewed publications.
From tutoring and mentoring undergraduate biology students to instructing graduate-level ecology courses, teaching has been an important part of my academic career. I am motivated to help students develop a strong understanding of scientific concepts, problem-solving skills, and the tools needed to effectively communicate science (e.g., writing, presenting). My teaching experience has included working with students in academic as well as real-world settings, such as field-based research projects, and by working with students from diverse backgrounds, I have learned how to adapt explanations and instruction for each unique individual.
I am particularly well suited to tutor biology, ecology, environmental science, and related subjects, as well as R/R Studio, data analysis, statistics, and scientific writing. Additionally, I am experienced in developing successful application materials for undergraduate and graduate (including a successful National Science Foundation Graduate Fellowship) programs and can support students through these application processes. My experience as both a researcher and teacher allows me to help students not only learn course material but also understand how scientists analyze information, interpret data, communicate results, and approach problems. I am comfortable working with students from introductory levels through advanced undergraduate and graduate coursework and am eager to support students grow their knowledge and experience.
