Despite needing only 126 credit hours for my MA, I took an extra year's worth of electives in Ancient Greek and Hebrew (3 years total). I love teaching enthusiastic students the ancient beautiful languages of Hebrew and Ancient Greek. I am a "going the extra mile" sort of teacher/tutor (take a look at my reviews). What do I teach? For Ancient Greek, I mean Classical Greek aka Attic and and later Koine (pre-Byzantine period) dialect, and for Hebrew, this includes Biblical and Modern. My methodology for teaching these languages is a combination of traditional grammar methods taught in English, as well as speaking the target language (Greek or Hebrew) to practice speaking them. Why speak these languages? Because in recent decades it has been shown that languages are internalized best by speaking, listening, writing, and reading any language. Come, let us get you started learning at YOUR pace, some easy vocabulary, building sentences together gradually getting harder, as well as speaking these amazing languages together while we read, write or discuss what we see in pictures, read a text, have conversations and more.

My MA in Ancient Philology from Polis Institute in Jerusalem (two years there) had 4 semesters of New Testament (NT) Greek and Old Testament (OT) Hebrew. I feel my greatest source of expertise is having studied extensively for years the earliest Christian writings we have outside of the Bible, called the Ante Nicene Fathers. In particular, the first 3 or 4 volumes that are dated from late first century CE to the beginning of the third century. In addition, I have studied for well over a decade the NT and OT extensively, the Mosaic Law, the Prophets and the Psalms, in addition to Christology (OT passages about the Messiah (Christ in Greek). I personally feel that modern Seminaries have departed from the Historic Faith in some ways. One thing I think is important for students is to learn the "big picture chronology" of the OT, i.e. can someone walk me through from Genesis to the end of the OT narratives explaining the events from Adam to the end with Ezra and Nehemiah? This is an important basis to understand the history that segways into the NT story of the Messiah.

I started independent study of Ancient Greek (NT Greek and the Greek OT called the Septuagint (symbol: LXX)) in late 2015 using various Grammar texts used in seminaries. The next year I attended an 8 week "spoken method" immersion course with Polis Institute at a prominent university in Florida, USA. I continued using the materials into 2017, and that summer, flew to Rome, Italy to attend a continuation 3 week immersion in the Advanced group; we had a placement test Day-One. In 3rd Qtr 2018, I began meeting with a graduate of Polis Institute weekly to read and discuss the Ancient Greek text in Ancient Greek (very little English). This helped me immensely. In Summer 2019 I flew to Jerusalem to attend Polis Institute, from which I obtained a Masters (MA) in Ancient Philology focused on both Hebrew and Ancient Greek.

I began studying Biblical Hebrew in 3rd Qtr 2019 at Polis Institute in Jerusalem; this was to obtain the Masters in Arts (MA), for which I completed four semesters of Biblical Hebrew under the instruction of a brilliant native Israeli teacher named Eyal Nahum. The method was the "Spoken Immersion" method, which is quite challenging, but does get the students listening, speaking, and reading in Biblical Hebrew from Day-One. In the Summer of 2020, I began learning Modern Hebrew, under the advice of our instructor while in Israel, who advised that there is enough overlap between the languages to gain an advantage in Biblical Hebrew; this is certainly the case. I am now Intermediate with Modern Hebrew. I began teaching Hebrew on Wyzant in early 2022.

Excellent instructor!

Brett is teaching me beginner Hebrew. It is a difficult language, but Brett is patient and thorough in his explanations, and makes learning fun. He provides excellent exercises to help retain the material.

Knowledgeble Hebrew tutor

Brett is working with my 14 year old teaching him Hebrew based on the materials from his Jewish school. We had a few lessons so far and planning to continue. He seems to know the subject well, he is patient and helping him with the words he doesn't know as well as reading and writing. They are working through exercises in the book. He is sharing screen for reading and uses whiteboard as well for writing. We are happy so far with the lessons and will continue to study with Brett!

A Great Koine Greek Tutor

Brett is very good tutor and has a unique way of teaching then when I was first taught Koine Greek. He likes to work on speaking and communicating in the language witch gets me to think more in the Koine Greek language then I have ever done before. It is helping me visualize the language more. He is very knowledgeable in not Only Koine Greek, but in Hebrew as well. I have just started to speak to him about teaching me Hebrew. I would recommend if you want to learn Koine Greek or just get some extra help as I am, Brett is the man for the job!

Brett has been teaching me Koine Greek. He has various methods of teaching that include guiding me in the textbook I already have, speaking/pronouncing Greek, and learning to write my own.
